Spring is the time of promise.  Tiny seeds planted with hope.  Crops envisioned and meals planned.  The eternal renewal of spring fuels a farmer’s passion and has since the days my great-grandfather Harry S. Smith worked this same Whidbey Island farm 80+ years ago. 

I hope with this journal you too feel the love of spring and the connection to the soil, the love for the land and the good food it produces.  A promise that passes on, generation-to-generation, spring-to-spring, if we do but one simple thing  - keep farming.
